Rocking Ship Welsh Longcase Automaton Clock, Fantastic Condition

Clockwise is happy to offer this lovely early Victorian longcase clock from Llanelli. The maker is William Isaac, a clock maker recorded in Park Street, Llanelli from 1835 to 1875. Dating from circa 1840 this fabulous flame mahogany clock stands at 7 feet 2 inches tall on bracket feet. The case is a lovely rich colour and patina with boxwood and ebonised inlay to the base, the trunk and the case door – the door retains its working lock and key and there are chamfered edges to the trunk. The inlay also extends to the hood which is surmounted by elegant scrollwork and three pediments with finials. The glazed door has a scrolling surround to the glass and is flanked by barley twist columns.

The 13 inch painted arched dial is in lovely condition depicting coastal and rural scenes with an automaton rocking ship to the arch. The white enamel dial is signed ‘Wm Isaac, Llanelly’ and has a working date window and the charming appearance is finished off with original fine brass hands.

The eight day four pillar rack striking movement strikes the full hours on a beautiful bell. The movement has just been serviced and as such carries my three year guarantee.

Delivery and a video of the clock working/striking is available, please enquire for details.
