Walnut Oak Georgian Moonphase Longcase Clock
Clockwise is proud to offer this grand oak and walnut moonphase longcase clock for sale. Dating from the reign of George II circa 1730 this is a superior clock of the period with the lovely oak case being inlaid to the hood door, chamfered trunk edges and decorative front trunk panels with desirable burr walnut. Boxwood inlay is also present providing further interest to the case which is mounted on its original pediment and the trunk door retains a working lock. The case is surmounted by a hood with swan-neck pediment and fluted outset columns with Corinthian brass capitals. A single finial and brass paterae adorn the hood.
The twelve inch arched moonphase dial has been restored with the maker”s name ”John Holdroyd” engraved into the chapter ring. This delightful clock has a fourth hand indicating the date and the dial has decorative rings around the winding holes within the matted centre and original mask spandrels to the dial corners. Arabic minute markers and half hour fleur de lys patterns adorn the chapter ring and a subsidiary seconds dial and original hands complete the grand appearance.
The eight day, rack-striking anchor escapement movement has just been serviced and strikes the hours on a very pleasing bell.
Standing at 7 feet 5 inches tall this is a tasteful example of a fine longcase clock which comes with my three year guarantee.
