This impressive clock features a substantial 10-inch painted Roman dial, signed “Geo. M. Hammer & Co., School Furnishers, 370 Strand, London, W.C.” The dial is housed within a handsome solid oak case, distinguished by its dovetailed back box, lower and side access doors, and glazed hinged original cast brass bezel incorporating an inner silvered sight ring. The lower door retains its original working lock and key.
The clock is fitted with a superior chain-driven eight day fusee movement which has just been serviced so as such benefits from my three year guarantee. The substantial movement plates, anchor escapement and heavy lead-filled brass pendulum are characteristic of a well-made period timepiece, while the elegant blued steel hands provide an attractive and refined contrast against the painted dial.
The single fusee mechanism reflects the traditional approach to maintaining a more consistent driving force as the mainspring unwinds, contributing to the clock’s reliable timekeeping.
