John Walker Dial Clock, Early, 8 Inch, Fusee
I am delighted to offer another great example of a John Walker eight day fusee wall clock dating from the mid 1860s.
The wire-driven movement has rectangular plates with an anchor escapement and has been fully overhauled so benefits from my three year guarantee.
The eight inch dial is in lovely condition and has been fully and tastefully restored with ”John Walker, 68 Cornhill and 230 Regent St, London” applied, with the serial number 389 also. The clock retains its original cast brass bezel with heavy bevelled glass and pronounced spade hands. The original bezel locks securely into a tab.
The one piece turned mahogany surround has fantastic colour and patination since its restoration. The circular surround is pegged to the back box in the classic manner with the usual side inspection door and lower regulating door with curved cockbeading as was prevalent at this time.
John Walker were manufacturers of clocks and are best known for supplying clocks to the principal railway companies of the day. They supplied clocks and watches and also arranged maintenance contracts. John Walker started in business in 1845 and the company was still in existence as late as 1980. John Walker is listed as working from 68 Cornhill from 1861-75, 230 Regent Street from 1864-75 and 76 Strand from 1871-75.
This is a super rare and original clock in gorgeous condition and it’s one of many fusee and railway clocks I have coming onto the market.
